Closing Date: 13 November 2026 at 17:00 (America/New_York)
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking a Fundraising & Donor Retention Consultant to support its Individual Giving Program (IGP) and strengthen long-term relationships with existing donors.
This is a home-based remote consultancy within UNFPA’s Private Sector and Civil Society Branch (PSCSB). The successful consultant will provide specialist expertise in donor retention, marketing automation, donor journey management and data analytics, helping UNFPA increase donor loyalty and sustain growth in its monthly donor base.
About UNFPA
UNFPA is the United Nations agency dedicated to achieving a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person can reach their full potential.
Through partnerships and resource mobilization, UNFPA works to secure the resources needed to support its global operations and advance reproductive health, gender equality and the rights and wellbeing of women, girls and young people.
The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Private Sector and Civil Society Branch, which leads UNFPA’s efforts to develop partnerships and mobilize innovative resources.
About the Consultancy
The consultant will focus primarily on retaining and growing existing individual donors. The role involves optimizing the donor lifecycle, identifying opportunities to reduce donor attrition and developing data-driven approaches that encourage long-term giving.
The consultant will support the development and implementation of a donor retention and loyalty strategy. This will include identifying lapsed donors, addressing failed recurring payments, segmenting donors according to giving history and potential, and monitoring which campaigns and communication channels generate stronger long-term retention.
Another major component will be donor journey design. The consultant will map the donor experience and identify opportunities to convert one-time supporters into recurring or monthly donors.
The successful candidate will also develop tailored stewardship communications and establish automated welcome and upgrade workflows within customer relationship management systems such as Salesforce.
Data Analytics and Reporting
Strong data analysis will be central to the role. The consultant will update tracking spreadsheets, review weekly gift dashboards and identify actionable insights relating to monthly donors.
Responsibilities will also include maintaining data quality and supporting standard operating procedures to ensure donor information and payment data are accurately recorded.
The consultant will develop and maintain reporting tools, spreadsheets and dashboards to monitor retention campaign performance, donor engagement, attrition and Lifetime Value (LTV).
The role will also support email testing by analysing donor data and campaign performance to identify approaches that improve donor loyalty and long-term revenue.
Content and Donor Communications
The consultant will use donor data to help improve communications and make mass outreach more relevant to individual donor segments.
This includes analysing email engagement, website activity, conversion rates and gift sizes to determine which messages and communication styles are most effective.
The consultant may also support copy testing and digital fundraising campaigns, using performance data to continually improve donor engagement and retention.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Marketing, Business Administration, International Relations, Finance, Economics, Data Science or a related field.
A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced degree.
Candidates should have at least three years of progressively responsible professional experience in fundraising, donor relations, data analytics, marketing communications or a related field.
Experience designing and implementing digital retention campaigns, data-driven donor journeys and email marketing automation is required.
Applicants should also have good knowledge of retention analytics, reporting dashboards and donor tracking systems.
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language—Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish—is desirable.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their application and a short motivation letter with the subject line “Fundraising & Donor Retention Consultancy” to pscsb.office@unfpa.org by 13 November 2026.
