Role Overview
Amnesty International is seeking a strategic and dynamic leader for the role of Deputy Regional Director (MENA) on a maternity cover basis for 8 months. This leadership position is crucial in driving Amnesty International’s human rights advocacy, research, and campaigning efforts across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The Deputy Regional Director will manage multi-functional teams responsible for high-impact research, advocacy, communications, and campaign strategies aimed at addressing human rights violations in the region. This role will also involve representing Amnesty International at high-level engagements with governments, civil society organizations, international bodies, and the media.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Oversee and manage multi-functional country teams, including researchers, campaigners, and communications professionals.
- Research & Advocacy: Lead the development and execution of human rights research, ensuring responsiveness to emerging human rights crises.
- Campaign Management: Design and implement strategic advocacy and campaigning initiatives to maximize impact.
- Representation & Engagement: Serve as Amnesty International’s key representative in the MENA region, engaging with government officials, international organizations, media, and civil society groups.
- Publications & Quality Assurance: Ensure the production of high-quality research reports, publications, and campaign materials.
- Security & Risk Management: Oversee field security protocols, mission logistics, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Resource Allocation & Budget Oversight: Contribute to managing Amnesty International’s resources effectively and efficiently.
- Activism & Membership Growth: Promote and expand Amnesty International’s activism and engagement in the region.
- Innovation in Campaigning: Utilize digital tools and creative tactics to enhance Amnesty International’s influence.
Required Skills and Experience
- Expertise in Human Rights: In-depth knowledge of human rights and political developments in at least one or two MENA countries.
- Research & Policy Analysis: Strong ability to conduct and oversee human rights investigations, advocacy, and evidence-based reporting.
- Campaign & Activism Experience: Proven track record in designing and executing successful human rights campaigns.
- Leadership & Team Management: Experience leading diverse, multi-functional teams in complex international settings.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Experience engaging with government bodies, civil society organizations, media, and international institutions.
- Project & Budget Management: Strong project management skills, with experience in overseeing budgets and operational functions.
- Multilingual Proficiency: Fluency in English and Arabic is essential; fluency in French or Persian is desirable.
