This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a Senior Programme Management Officer position supporting one of the most influential global biodiversity initiatives under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The role supports the Kunming Biodiversity Fund (KBF), a new Multi-Partner Trust Fund aimed at reversing biodiversity loss and supporting sustainable development across developing countries.

As a Senior Programme Manager (P-5 level), you will play a central role in planning, directing, and coordinating large-scale international environmental projects. This includes overseeing budgets, leading diverse teams, building global partnerships, and ensuring delivery of measurable outcomes. The role is strategic and dynamic—ideal for experienced professionals in biodiversity, environmental economics, or programme management.

Tasks

As the Senior Programme Management Officer, you will be responsible for:

Leading the design, implementation, and evaluation of large-scale environmental programmes.
Coordinating multi-country project submissions, funding proposals, and monitoring results.
Overseeing communications, advocacy strategies, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Supporting strategic planning and fund performance reporting, including the Annual Report.
Supervising staff recruitment, performance assessments, and development.
Liaising with stakeholders such as the MPTFO, Fund donors, technical advisory groups, and partner countries.
Ensuring gender perspectives are integrated into all aspects of programme execution.
Using data analytics to evaluate performance and guide strategic decisions.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

A Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental management, biodiversity conservation, environmental economics, or a related discipline is required.
A first-level university degree with relevant experience may also be considered.
Additional training in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in international programme management, with a strong focus on biodiversity.
At least 5 years working in developing countries is required.
Experience managing teams and working with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) is desirable.
Familiarity with UN agencies or international development organizations is a plus.
Background in data analytics or results-based project reporting is an added advantage.

Additional Information

This position offers a highly competitive salary, commensurate with P-5 level roles in the UN system.
The role is initially for one year and may be extended depending on mandate and funding availability.
