The World Resources Institute (WRI) is offering an exciting Communications Internship within its Climate, Economics, and Finance Program in Washington, D.C. About the Program

WRI’s Climate, Economics, and Finance Program focuses on supporting policymakers, businesses, and civil society in advancing structural shifts necessary to address climate change. This team works across local, national, and international levels to advocate for ambitious climate action.

This hybrid internship requires interns to work 8 days per month in WRI’s Washington, D.C., office. Candidates must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia and must have existing work authorization at the time of application, as WRI does not offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Internship Responsibilities

The Communications Intern will play a key role in developing and executing communication strategies aimed at driving bold climate action. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Communications, responsibilities include:

  • Drafting communications materials such as social media posts, articles, PowerPoint presentations, email marketing campaigns, and promotional content.
  • Managing and updating the Climate, Economics, and Finance Program’s online presence, including website content.
  • Collaborating with program, research, and communication teams to enhance engagement opportunities and promote thought leadership.
  • Supporting high-level events and speaking engagements aligned with WRI’s climate agenda.
  • Assisting with media engagement in coordination with WRI’s communications team.
  • Contributing to the outreach strategy leading up to and during the UN climate summit, COP30.

Qualifications

To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, climate policy, international policy, journalism, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Passion for Climate Policy: Interest in climate change, environmental policy, and sustainable development.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Research & Writing Skills: Experience in research, editing, and digital communications.
  • Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Meeting tight deadlines and collaborating with international teams.

Compensation and Duration

This full-time, six-month internship offers competitive hourly compensation:

  • $20/hour for undergraduate students
  • $22/hour for graduate students
  • $24/hour for PhD students

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Hybrid internship based in Washington, D.C.
  • Interns must work in-office at least 8 days per month.
  • Must be a resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia at the start of employment.
