Job Overview
Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a dynamic, experienced individual for the role of Associate Director, Development and Outreach in their Los Angeles office. This full-time position will focus on fundraising and outreach events and initiatives in the Los Angeles area, working closely with HRW’s Development and Outreach Department. The successful candidate will report to the Los Angeles Director and be responsible for managing donor relations, coordinating fundraising events, and expanding HRW’s financial support base. This hybrid position requires working from the Los Angeles office 2-3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution: Collaborate with the Los Angeles Director to develop and implement fundraising strategies, maintaining a personal portfolio of donors and soliciting major gifts.

Outreach & Event Management: Oversee the organization and execution of fundraising and outreach events, including HRW’s Voices for Justice celebration, briefings, and private dinners.

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Build and manage relationships with current and prospective donors, expanding HRW’s financial support through cultivation and solicitation efforts.

Committee Oversight: Lead and manage local Committee initiatives, working closely with HRW’s Executive Committee to develop and implement strategic plans.

Donor Services & Tracking: Oversee the use of Salesforce to manage gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and fundraising reports.

Team Collaboration & Diversity: Foster a collaborative environment, integrating diversity, equity, and inclusionvalues into HRW’s operations and fundraising activities.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as required to support HRW’s mission and goals.
Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in international relations, social sciences, communications/marketing, or equivalent work experience.

Experience: A minimum of 7 years in donor management, fundraising, or philanthropy, including experience managing large-scale events.

Skills & Knowledge:

Demonstrated commitment to human rights issues and the ability to represent HRW’s mission.

Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Proven track record in event management and donor cultivation.

Strong computer skills, with experience in Salesforce, Constant Contact, and familiarity with social media.

Salary and Benefits
