This role plays a pivotal part in shaping how Plan International is perceived across EU institutions and audiences. With a strong focus on children’s rights and gender equality, this role combines strategic communications, media engagement, and advocacy.
Founded over 85 years ago, Plan International works across 80+ countries, driving systemic change and equity for vulnerable children, especially girls. The organization collaborates with governments, youth leaders, and NGOs to influence policies and shift narratives for a more just world.
In this role, the Communications and Media Manager will lead efforts to boost visibility, enhance media outreach, and position Plan International as a trusted voice in the EU on global child rights and humanitarian issues. This includes crafting compelling narratives, managing content strategies, and working across social platforms.
Tasks
As the Communications and Media Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering strategic media and communications plans for EU audiences.
- Developing and publishing high-quality content across channels including press, social media, and internal platforms.
- Leading media engagement activities to secure coverage in EU-focused outlets.
- Managing social media presence, including live coverage and content scheduling.
- Ensuring alignment of messaging across policy, influencing, and partnership teams.
- Advising leadership and teams on media and communication strategies.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to increase the impact of Plan International’s work in the EU region.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- A university degree in communications, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in media relations, digital strategy, or public policy are an asset.
Experience
- Demonstrated success in media engagement and public relations, ideally in the EU context.
- Strong command of EU institutions, policy frameworks, and external communications.
- Experience creating strategic content for campaigns, live events, and digital platforms.
- Skilled in handling sensitive topics with professionalism and impact.
- Knowledge of GDPR and media ethics standards.
- Proven ability to manage content calendars, media lists, and analytics tools.
- Experience in multicultural or international organizations is strongly preferred.
Additional Information
- Type of Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), Belgian Fixed-Term Contract (CDI)
- Salary: €4,600 gross/month, plus 13th-month salary, meal vouchers, pension plan, DKV coverage, and public transport reimbursement.
- Working Schedule: Minimum two days/week in Brussels EU Liaison Office; hybrid model.
- Reports To: Head of Influencing
