To support its growing communication needs, Aflatoun is recruiting a full-time Communications Specialist. This remote position offers a unique opportunity for a passionate and creative communicator to develop content and digital strategies that highlight Aflatoun’s global impact.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the selected candidate will help craft compelling digital content, manage social media, coordinate campaigns, and support stakeholder communication efforts. The position involves a 40-hour workweek, and the salary will be based on Aflatoun’s local salary scale, depending on the candidate’s location and experience.


Tasks

The Communications Specialist will lead and support a variety of content creation and digital engagement tasks:

Content Strategy and Storytelling

  • Research and write high-quality content for blogs, newsletters, and publications.
  • Develop powerful stories that showcase Aflatoun’s impact in communities globally.
  • Collaborate with program teams to translate field success into shareable content.
  • Assist with drafting marketing materials, presentations, and strategic reports.

Social Media and Digital Communications

  • Manage daily social media activity across platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Design and schedule posts that align with Aflatoun’s voice and visual brand.
  • Maintain and update website content using WordPress.
  • Execute email marketing campaigns using tools like Mailchimp, and analyze performance.

Event and Campaign Support

  • Coordinate promotional materials and online engagement for events and awareness campaigns.
  • Provide live coverage (including photography and social media updates) for virtual and physical events.
  • Help with virtual event production and post-event communications and reporting.

Administrative and Strategic Communications

  • Support communication planning and team coordination.
  • Contribute to donor communications, grant writing, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist in managing relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with strong work experience may also be considered.

Experience and Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, content scheduling, and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in content creation across platforms (blogs, reports, newsletters, social media).
  • Design and multimedia skills are a strong asset, especially experience with:
    • Adobe Creative Suite
    • Canva
    • Photography and basic video editing
  • Proficiency in WordPress, SEO best practices, and web analytics tools is beneficial.
  • Experience using email marketing platforms like Mailchimp.
  • An interest in education, child development, or international development is strongly preferred.
  • Additional language skills in French, Spanish, or Russian are considered an advantage.

Work Conditions
