Responsibilities

As the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer, the Director will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversee all UNU-WIDER operations.
  • Lead research programs, ensuring high academic and policy relevance.
  • Manage budgets, staff, and institutional partnerships.
  • Strengthen funding and resource mobilization efforts.
  • Foster global collaborations with UN agencies, think tanks, and governments.
  • Represent UNU-WIDER at high-level policy discussions and international forums.

Qualifications & Experience

🎓 Education:

  • A PhD in Economics or a related field.

👨‍💼 Experience:

  • At least 15 years of experience in economics or development research.
  • A strong track record of leadership and management in an academic or research setting.
  • Proven ability to mobilize resources and manage donor relations.
  • Experience in financial and human resource management.
  • Knowledge of UN policies and global development frameworks is an asset.

🗣 Language Requirements:

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of Finnish or another UN language is an advantage.
