Background & Job Description

Fanatics, a leading global digital sports platform, is looking for a highly skilled and entrepreneurial Engineering Manager to lead the Gamification team. This role is responsible for the technical strategy, hiring, architecture, and execution of Free-to-Play (F2P) gaming products integrated within the Fanatics App.

The Fanatics App is the central hub for the company’s digital initiatives, blending ecommerce, live events, fan engagement, and interactive sports experiences. As the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the app into a daily destination for sports fans by spearheading the gamification roadmap.

This position is fully remote with occasional travel for events, team-building, and strategic planning sessions.

Tasks

Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead the Gamification team with a focus on building, scaling, and evolving the Free-to-Play product experience.
  • Define the technical roadmap, set team goals, and drive architectural decisions aligned with company strategy.
  • Build and scale a high-performing engineering team committed to excellence and innovation.
  • Serve as a technical thought leader within the engineering organization.

Agile Product Delivery

  • Oversee the software delivery process using Agile and SCRUM methodologies.
  • Facilitate daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and stakeholder communication.
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to align technical scope with product roadmaps.

Execution and Delivery

  • Ensure timely delivery of features with a balance between speed and quality.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively, managing trade-offs between customer impact, technical debt, and engineering effort.
  • Resolve engineering blockers quickly, escalating when needed for organizational alignment.

Metrics and Performance Management

  • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess team health and project performance.
  • Report on progress to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Use data to support continuous improvement and optimize engineering practices.

Talent Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team environment.
  • Guide junior engineers in technical and career development.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Although no specific degree is required, candidates with a background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical fields are preferred. Certifications in Agile, SCRUM, or leadership training will be considered a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience managing engineering teams.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience building scalable and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Proven ability to lead the development of applications with modern technology stacks and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience in defining and deconstructing complex architectures that can be developed by multiple teams.

Core Skills

  • Strong understanding of system design, performance optimization, and software architecture.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and SCRUM.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product, design, and operations teams.
  • Solid problem-solving, analytical, and report-writing capabilities.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $164,160 to $237,500 (base only, excluding bonuses and equity).
