Bloomberg Associates (BA), Bloomberg Philanthropies’ pro bono consulting service, helps cities improve quality of life through expert consulting in nine key areas, including Economic Development, where the Economic Development Fellow will make an impact.
The Position
The Economic Development Team is looking for a Fellow to assist in U.S. client cities. Key areas of focus include economic strategy, business development, small business growth, neighborhood revitalization, workforce development, commercial property regeneration, and tourism promotion.

Hours: 15-20 hours per week

Contract: Initial six-month duration

Location: Based in New York metro area (some in-person meetings required)
Key Responsibilities

Conduct independent research and policy analysis on areas like:
-
Business sector ecosystem development (startup ecosystems, tech, manufacturing, etc.)

Small business support (financing, digital tools, local business development)
-
Downtown and neighborhood revitalization (commercial corridors, downtown recovery)
-
Workforce development (labor market analysis, career pathways)
-
Financing and incentives (tax incentives, business financing programs)
-
Commercial real estate development and regeneration (planning, land use strategies, public-private partnerships)

Develop research papers, memos, case studies, and presentations

Coordinate with government, academic, nonprofit, and business leaders

Present findings to project clients
Qualifications
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s a plus)
-
Experience: Minimum of two years in business, government, or nonprofit sectors
-
Strong analytical, strategic, and delivery-focused mindset
-
Experience in policy research and project execution
-
Excellent communication skills and ability to engage partners
-
Proficient in creating presentations and working with data tools (Tableau is a plus)
-
Self-starter with a proactive, problem-solving attitude
