Job Summary
As the Director of Development, Philanthropy, you will play a critical role in securing major gifts from ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family foundations. Reporting to the Executive Director of Philanthropy, this role focuses on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of giving $100,000+ annually. You will engage donors through personalized strategies, build long-term relationships, and connect them with CARE’s mission and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of 30-50 donors and prospects.
- Secure gifts of $100,000+, exceeding annual fundraising goals.
- Educate donors about CARE’s impact and align giving opportunities with their philanthropic interests.
- Develop creative, personalized donor engagement and stewardship strategies.
- Serve as a key liaison between donors, CARE leadership, board members, and program teams.
Prospect & Pipeline Development
- Identify and cultivate new principal gift prospects through events and referrals.
- Activate a donor pipeline via networking, influencers, and donor-advised funds (DAFs).
- Work with Prospect Research to engage emerging philanthropists.
- Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams to optimize donor engagement.
- Represent the Principal Gifts team as a strategic and collaborative partner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in fundraising, major gifts, or philanthropy.
- Experience working with ultra-high-net-worth donors.
- Proficiency in Salesforce or similar donor management systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The Director of Philanthropy, Western Region is responsible for engaging high-net-worth individuals and securing major gifts of $10,000 to $100,000. Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, this role involves building long-term donor relationships, crafting tailored engagement strategies, and securing funding for humanitarian and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors and prospects.
- Secure gifts of $10,000+, with a focus on $25,000+ contributions.
- Connect donors to CARE’s mission, demonstrating impact through strategic storytelling.
- Foster donor engagement by building personalized giving opportunities.
- Support fundraising in emerging global markets.
Prospect & Pipeline Development
- Identify and cultivate major gift prospects through events and referrals.
- Leverage board networks, influencers, and philanthropic advisors to expand donor engagement.
- Maintain accurate records in Salesforce.
Internal Collaboration
- Work across CARE teams to enhance donor stewardship.
- Act as a collaborative and enthusiastic representative of the Major Gifts team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in major gifts fundraising.
- Track record of securing 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Experience with large nonprofits or international NGOs.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Salesforce or similar donor CRM tools.
