1. Research Consultant – Civil Society Artivism Project

Location: Global (Remote)
Duration: 6 months
Start Date: Immediate
Budget Range: US$ 16,000 – US$ 20,000

About the Role

CIVICUS is looking for a consultant to conduct research on artivism, the intersection of art and activism. This project aims to document how creative expression is used as a tool for social change, particularly in restricted civic spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews and interviews with activists and artists.
  • Map at least 50 global artivism initiatives.
  • Develop 8-10 in-depth case studies on creative resistance.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of digital and cultural artivism.
  • Produce a final comprehensive report (40-50 pages) and an executive summary.
  • Present key findings to CIVICUS stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in social sciences or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of research experience.
  • Strong qualitative research and interviewing skills.
  • Experience with participatory research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of civil society and human rights movements.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages (French, Spanish, Arabic) are a plus.

2. EU SEE Research Officer

Location: Remote
Contract Type: 12 months (Renewable)
Salary: $36,061 per year (excluding benefits)

About the Role

The EU SEE Research Officer will support the EU System for an Enabling Environment for Civil Society (SEE)project by conducting research on civic space and human rights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage partnerships and research collaborations within the EU SEE project.
  • Contribute to research methodology development and the early warning mechanism.
  • Review research products and provide analytical insights.
  • Work closely with CIVICUS Monitor and consortium partners.
  • Assist in project administration and reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in sociology, international relations, political science, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in civil society research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of international human rights frameworks.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic is an asset.
