Role Summary:
GARDP seeks a Political Advocacy Advisor to lead its political advocacy initiatives in the UK and Northern Ireland. The role focuses on enhancing GARDP’s visibility, building strategic relationships, and influencing policymakers to support solutions combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This part-time role offers flexible working arrangements and a chance to shape national and international AMR policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocacy Strategy Development:
- Design and execute tailored advocacy strategies aligned with GARDP’s global priorities.
- Identify opportunities to influence national AMR policies and funding.
- Align advocacy initiatives with external relations and fundraising efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relations with key UK government bodies (e.g., DHSC, FCDO).
- Collaborate with Parliament, MPs, and cross-party groups to promote AMR initiatives.
- Engage philanthropic foundations, corporate partners, and global health leaders.
- Political Advisory and Intelligence:
- Monitor political developments and provide strategic advice.
- Engage ministers, advisors, and parliamentary champions on AMR issues.
- Offer insights into government processes to navigate political landscapes effectively.
- Advocacy and Representation:
- Represent GARDP at high-level forums, donor meetings, and parliamentary events.
- Amplify advocacy efforts via UK media, public statements, and joint campaigns.
- Support ambassadorial events led by the UK Special Envoy on AMR.
- Integration with Global Health Diplomacy:
- Utilize UK’s leadership in science diplomacy to foster international collaborations.
- Engage networks like the UK Science and Innovation Network (SIN) to position GARDP globally.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven track record in political advocacy, public affairs, or related fields, ideally in global health or AMR.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK political landscape and parliamentary processes.
- Strong network within UK political spheres, including AMR-related groups and policymakers.
- Experience in designing and executing impactful advocacy strategies.
- Familiarity with UK media and public communication strategies.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Master’s degree in political science, public health, international relations, or related fields (preferred).

- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments and with external stakeholders.
