Position Overview

The Development Officer/Grant Writer is a critical role responsible for writing and securing funding for BHRRC’s projects, focusing primarily on private foundations and government funding sources in Europe. The role offers a unique opportunity for someone with strong grant writing experience to join a growing team that raises approximately £5 million annually. You’ll collaborate with teams across the organization to develop donor materials, build strategic fundraising plans, and track the success of funding applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Writing & Reporting:

    • Craft compelling donor communication materials including proposals, reports, and funding applications.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high-quality written content that clearly articulates BHRRC’s mission and impact.
    • Generate funding reports and ensure that all donor requirements are met.
  2. Research & Fundraising:

    • Identify new funding opportunities across Europe and assess the eligibility and fit for BHRRC’s mission.
    • Build and maintain relationships with European funders, ensuring effective communication and stewardship.
  3. Organizational Support:

    • Work with the Development and Communications Teams to create fundraising materials and update documents.
    • Contribute to the strategic planning of fundraising efforts and organizational policies.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in foundation/government fundraising, especially in grant writing.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with a proven ability to create original proposals, reports, and donor correspondence.
  • Strong research skills to identify funding sources and evaluate opportunities.
  • Highly developed project management skills and ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
  • Commitment to human rights and an understanding of business and human rights issues is a plus.
