Tasks

The Head of Office will be responsible for a wide range of strategic, managerial, and operational duties, including:

  • Providing expert guidance on the development, implementation, and monitoring of the country portfolio aligned with UN Women’s global Strategic Plan.
  • Leading the formulation and execution of country strategic notes, response plans, and advocacy initiatives focused on gender equality.
  • Acting as a key advisor to senior UN officials and government partners, ensuring gender equality is mainstreamed across UN programming.
  • Coordinating UN Women’s participation in UN Country Teams and Humanitarian Country Teams to align efforts with broader UN goals.
  • Developing resource mobilization strategies and leading fundraising efforts to support program sustainability.
  • Managing and mentoring a diverse team, including senior staff, and ensuring effective operational and security compliance.
  • Representing UN Women at high-level intergovernmental forums, policy dialogues, and public events to advocate for women’s rights.
  • Overseeing knowledge management, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives within the office.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in development-related disciplines, economics, public policy, social sciences, or related fields is required.
  • A first-level university degree combined with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Project or programme management certification (e.g., PMP®, PRINCE2®) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international development with a focus on strategic and managerial leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in gender equality and women’s empowerment programming, preferably within the UN system or international organizations.
  • Experience working in conflict or complex humanitarian settings is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to engage with high-level stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and multilateral agencies.
  • Strong track record in resource mobilization and partnership building.
  • Experience managing multicultural teams and working under pressure in dynamic environments.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory; knowledge of other UN languages is a plus.
