Background
UN Women is dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women globally. Its Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action (WPSHA) programme supports governments, UN partners, and civil society to increase women’s participation and influence in decision-making, as well as to ensure gender is included in humanitarian action in the Arab region.
To support this mission, UN Women ROAS is looking for a Gender Researcher with expertise in gender research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and strategic writing. The consultant will assist the WPSHA team by analyzing data and preparing research and policy documents.

Main Objectives and Purpose of the Consultancy
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Regional Advisor on Women, Peace, Security, and Humanitarian Action to support data analysis and gender research for the WPSHA team. This role is on a retainer basis, meaning the consultant will be available for assignments on an as-needed basis.

Scope of Work/Responsibilities
- Research:
- Draft high-quality knowledge products on topics like humanitarian action, women, peace, and security.
- Develop inception reports, methodologies, and tools for research.
- Address feedback and ensure all research outputs are approved and accurate.
- Present findings and recommendations in meetings and events.
- Review research frameworks and methodologies from a gender lens.
- Collect primary data through focus groups and interviews.
- Conduct secondary data analysis through desk reviews.
- Analyze quantitative data (surveys, questionnaires) focusing on gender.
- Perform content analysis on qualitative data related to gender.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Assist in the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for UN Women projects.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Competencies

- In-depth knowledge of women, peace, and security.

- Expertise in developing research strategies and providing strategic advice.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in Human Rights, Political Science, International Affairs/Development, Sociology, Public Administration, Economics, Gender and Women’s Studies, or a related discipline.
- A Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in gender research, data analysis, and editing complex reports related to peacebuilding and humanitarian action.
- Proficiency in MS Office and internet communication tools.
- Language:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
Consultancy Details:
- Workplace: Home-based, with potential travel to Cairo and other countries as needed.
