About the Organization – IIIM-Syria

The International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) was established to assist in the investigation and prosecution of individuals responsible for the most serious crimes under international law committed in Syria since March 2011. The IIIM collects, preserves, and analyzes evidence to support accountability efforts. This internship falls under the Information Systems Management Section (ISMS) of the IIIM, which is responsible for information governance and management.

Internship Overview

Work Location & Duration

• Location: Remote, with adjustments based on the candidate’s request.
• Duration: 6 months, starting from May 1, 2025.
• Work Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) from 09:00-18:00.
• Compensation: Unpaid.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Internet Research Intern at IIIM-Syria, you will:

• Conduct targeted open-source research and analysis on issues relevant to Syria.
• Research and summarize political, economic, social, technological, and legal aspects of the Syrian situation.
• Assist in developing frameworks and processes related to information governance.
• Synthesize relevant literature and contribute to methodological research.
• Compile research findings into reports and presentations for the IIIM team.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all tasks.

Eligibility and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate program (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
• Be in the final year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent).

While prior professional experience is not required, preference will be given to candidates with a background in:

• Digital Diplomacy
• Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
• Information Governance

Additionally, candidates must:

• Have fluency in spoken and written English (knowledge of Arabic is an advantage).
• Demonstrate strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
