Background & Job Description

The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) supports developing countries, particularly the least developed ones, by mobilizing capital for sustainable development. With a focus on achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNCDF specializes in deploying grants, loans, and guarantees to drive impactful investments that foster local economic growth and poverty reduction.

The Partnerships, Policy, and Communications (PPC) Unit is looking for an intern to support initiatives related to advocacy, innovative financing, resource mobilization, and donor relations. Reporting to the Sustainable Finance and Partnerships Specialist, the intern will contribute to expanding partnerships, creating financial instruments, and supporting knowledge-sharing efforts.

Key Tasks

1. Strategic Advocacy and Partnership Development:

  • Support the development of strategies tailored to specific donors.
  • Assist in building relationships with the financial sector and private investors.
  • Provide policy recommendations to position UNCDF strongly.
  • Analyze donor trends and identify strategic opportunities.

2. Resource Mobilization:

  • Assist in mobilizing resources from traditional and non-traditional donors.
  • Conduct analysis of donor-specific trends and aid policies.
  • Contribute to creating innovative finance vehicles and instruments.

3. Donor Relations:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with donor representatives and stakeholders.
  • Represent UNCDF at financial conferences and investor events.

4. Knowledge Sharing:

  • Organize and conduct trainings on resource mobilization and partnership building.
  • Identify lessons learned and contribute to UNCDF’s knowledge networks.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related fields.

Desirable Skills:

  • Proficiency in creating presentations and financial models.
  • Experience in consulting, investment banking, or finance-related roles is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Familiarity with international development issues.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English required; French is highly desirable.

Additional Information

  • UNCDF provides a modest monthly stipend for on-site/full-time internships.
  • Selected candidates must provide proof of education enrollment, health insurance, and other required documentation.
  • Internships are designed to enhance learning and are not an entryway into employment.
