🔎 Position Overview: Manager, Donor Engagement and Stewardship

As the Manager of Donor Engagement and Stewardship, you’ll play a key role in building meaningful relationships with major donors and philanthropists. This position supports the Major Gifts team and collaborates across departments to craft tailored engagement strategies, deliver impactful donor communications, and oversee fundraising campaigns and stewardship initiatives.

You’ll be an internal champion for donor impact, ensuring CARE’s generous supporters understand the value and results of their contributions.

CARE South Sudan is looking for a Project Manager to oversee the South Sudan Women Economic Empowerment Project (SSWEEP), a pioneering initiative funded by the World Bank and managed by UN Women. This project focuses on creating and strengthening women-led Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) in Eastern Equatoria and Western Bahr el Gahzal states. The successful Project Manager will lead the implementation of Component 2 of SSWEEP, focusing on providing productive assets to mature VSLAs to support income-generating activities, thus driving economic empowerment for women in South Sudan.

This position requires a highly skilled and committed individual with a background in community-based microfinanceeconomic empowerment, and project management. The role offers an exciting opportunity to make a substantial difference in the lives of women in South Sudan while working in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

As the Project Manager for SSWEEP, you will be expected to manage all aspects of the project, including:

1. Project Implementation and Management

  • Lead the planning, execution, and adaptation of project activities, ensuring that the project is in line with donor guidelines and CARE standards.

  • Coordinate closely with project partners, including government agencies, donors, and community-based organizations.

  • Ensure efficient financial management and allocation of resources, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints and financial regulations.

  • Manage the project office, including staffing, resources, and logistics, to optimize project implementation and outcomes.

  • Identify and mitigate potential project-related risks, ensuring that issues are addressed proactively and solutions are implemented promptly.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

  • Align Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities with the project’s strategic goals, ensuring the collection of accurate and timely data.

  • Draft high-quality donor reports that summarize progress, challenges, and outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate project records, ensuring that all reports and documentation are up to date.

  • Use M&E findings to improve program design and share lessons learned within the broader CARE community and with stakeholders.

3. Team Management and Safeguarding

  • Lead and coordinate the project staff, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance with CARE’s policies and standards.

  • Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of new project staff, and provide training to ensure continuous professional development.

  • Implement safeguarding measures, conduct local assessments, and ensure the safety of all involved in the project.

  • Promote gender equality and safeguarding within the project, ensuring that all stakeholders uphold CARE’s commitment to ethical standards.

4. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with government authoritiesdonors, and community leaders to ensure the project’s success.

  • Engage actively in humanitarian coordination mechanisms, representing CARE in sectoral meetings and advocacy initiatives.

  • Provide technical support to local implementing partners, strengthening the capacity of partner organizations in the process.

5. Strengthening CARE’s VSLA Program

  • Provide strategic leadership to the VSLA program in South Sudan, serving as a technical resource for project teams and partners.

  • Oversee research, impact assessments, and learning events that contribute to the improvement of VSLAs and economic empowerment initiatives.

  • Identify and coordinate the provision of short-term technical assistance to enhance program delivery and impact.

6. Development of CARE’s Presence in South Sudan

  • Represent CARE in sectoral clusters and working groups, contributing to long-term strategy and needs assessments for South Sudan.

  • Support donor engagement efforts, identifying and promoting new funding opportunities for CARE South Sudan.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of CARE South Sudan’s overall strategic plans for future programs.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., EconomicsDevelopment StudiesBusiness Administration). A Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in economic empowerment or financial inclusion.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing, managing, and scaling Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs).

  • At least 3 years in a management position with program oversight responsibilities.

  • Strong knowledge of microfinance and financial inclusion principles, with experience in community-based programs.

  • Proven track record of stakeholder engagement, including working with government bodiesdonors, and community leaders.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.

  • Solid understanding of financial resource management and donor compliance regulations.

  • Experience in capacity building and advocacy within the microfinance sector.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with strong reporting and analytical skills.

Languages

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
