Their holistic approach includes more than 6,000 hours of mentoring, hundreds of security workshops, and a strong emphasis on wellbeing and mental health.
To meet growing needs in the United States, Open Briefing is expanding its team and hiring U.S.-based psychologists and counsellors on a freelance basis. These professionals will help build psychological resilience and offer tailored wellbeing support to activists, human rights defenders, and nonprofit teams operating under stress or threat.
This consultancy offers the flexibility of remote work, the fulfillment of supporting global social change, and an attractive compensation of £100 per hour. Consultants will become part of a diverse, purpose-driven international team delivering impact at scale.
Tasks
Consultants will provide expert psychological support, advice, and tools to strengthen individual and organizational resilience. Responsibilities include:
Mental Health & Wellbeing Services
- Conducting wellbeing and psychosocial needs assessments for referred activists and nonprofit workers
- Delivering remote counselling sessions, including Psychological First Aid
- Offering individual guidance through personalized wellbeing and resilience plans
Group Work & Training
- Facilitating online group sessions and webinars focused on wellbeing management and stress reduction strategies
- Leading training on topics like digital wellbeing, burnout prevention, and collective care
Organisational Consultancy
- Advising nonprofit clients on staff care strategies and organizational wellbeing practices
- Supporting development of tailored policies and protocols that promote mental health and prevent burnout
Collaborative Engagement
- Coordinating with Open Briefing’s internal teams to ensure timely support
- Participating in planning, case reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions with fellow consultants
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Must be a licensed, accredited, and insured mental health professional authorized to practice in the United States
- Certification must align with U.S. regulations and include current registration with a professional body
- Familiarity with professional data protection standards is essential
Experience
- Minimum of several years’ experience providing counselling, therapy, or psychological support
- Prior work with nonprofit organizations, activists, or rights-based missions is highly desirable
- Must demonstrate availability for new assignments within 2-3 business days
- Candidates should be comfortable working with clients from racially, culturally, and politically diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration in California or in a PSYPACT-participating state is advantageous
- Additional language proficiency (especially Spanish) is preferred
- Experience in digital wellbeing, collective care, or trauma-informed practices is a plus
