Background & Job Description
The World Food Programme (WFP), a global humanitarian organization and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, is recruiting a Programme Associate for its school-based programmes. The role is vital in supporting the integration of nutrition, behavior change, local food procurement, and food safety within national school feeding frameworks.
The position is offered under a Service Contract Level 6 (SC L6) for an initial 6-month term, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs.
The Programme Associate will work under the guidance of WFP and in collaboration with national and local partners. The role is centered on ensuring effective programme delivery, support to smallholder farmers, capacity development of school implementers, and coordination across multiple stakeholders involved in nutrition and education.
Tasks
Integration of Social Behaviour Change and Innovation
- Embed Social Behaviour Change (SBC) strategies to improve student and community nutrition habits.
- Facilitate the use of digital systems for monitoring and evaluation of school feeding programmes.
Technical Assistance for National School Feeding
- Provide systems and technical support to strengthen national procurement capacity.
- Promote procurement practices that favor locally sourced, nutritious, and safe food.
Stakeholder Engagement & Learning Sessions
- Organize sessions with stakeholders on nutrition and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene).
- Ensure sessions cover food safety, quality standards, hygiene, and education.
Capacity Building
- Design and implement capacity-building sessions for teachers, parents, and local farmers.
- Train implementers on meal planning and nutrition monitoring.
- Strengthen the supply and value chains connecting smallholder farmers to school programmes.
Review of Programme Guidelines
- Facilitate review and updates of guidelines on nutrition, food safety, and operational practices.
- Align updated guidelines with global best practices and local policy frameworks.
Menu Planning & Compliance Monitoring
- Ensure menus are nutritious, culturally appropriate, and regionally diverse.
- Coordinate supply-demand planning aligned with regional value chains.
Farmer Development Support
- Offer day-to-day support to smallholder farmers in supply chain management.
- Strengthen food procurement systems and ensure consistent delivery to schools.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- University degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Science, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or other related fields.
Experience
- Relevant experience in programme management, school feeding, nutrition, or food procurement.
- Strong understanding of food systems, WASH practices, and capacity development.
- Experience working with government or NGOs on school feeding programmes is an asset.
- Familiarity with smallholder farmer support and value chain systems is desirable.
