Background & Job Description

Plan International, a leading global development and humanitarian organization, is seeking a Communications and Media Manager to join its EU Liaison Office in Brussels. The organization has over 85 years of experience championing children’s rights and gender equality in more than 80 countries.

This key role is at the heart of Plan International’s EU strategy, linking policy, advocacy, and programmatic communication to amplify its impact and visibility. The selected candidate will craft compelling content, lead media engagement, and support high-level influencing work across EU institutions.


Tasks

The Communications and Media Manager will be responsible for:

  • Strategic Communications Planning: Leading cohesive communication efforts that align with Plan International’s advocacy and policy goals within the EU framework.
  • Media Engagement: Cultivating media relationships and securing impactful placements in EU media outlets.
  • Social Media Management: Handling social media strategies, live event coverage, content creation, and algorithmic engagement.
  • Content Development: Producing high-quality content in English tailored to diverse EU audiences, ensuring visibility for campaigns and initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Working across the Influencing, Partnerships, and Management Teams to ensure consistent messaging and visibility.
  • Monitoring and Compliance: Ensuring all communications respect GDPR, data protection, and privacy regulations.

Qualifications

Education and Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (additional EU languages are a plus)
  • In-depth understanding of EU institutions and international development policies, particularly those related to gender equality and children’s rights
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics to diverse stakeholders
  • Expertise in online communication strategies, social media, and campaign planning

Experience

  • Proven track record of success in communications or media management, preferably within an EU policy or development context
  • Familiarity with social media management tools, content creation, and live event coverage
  • Prior experience in multicultural international settings

Additional Information

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium (hybrid: at least 2 days/week in office)
  • Salary: €4,600 gross/month
