About the Market Shaping Accelerator (MSA)

The Market Shaping Accelerator (MSA) is a dynamic initiative within CGD, led by world-renowned scholars, including Nobel laureate Michael Kremer (University of Chicago), CGD President Rachel Glennerster, and Dartmouth Professor Christopher Snyder. The MSA identifies and implements high-impact market shaping instruments to address pressing global challenges, such as:

  • Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
  • Biosecurity and Pandemic Preparedness
  • Health and Development Innovations

Through innovative economic mechanisms such as Advance Market Commitments (AMCs), the MSA collaborates with stakeholders to incentivize cutting-edge solutions that drive global progress.


Job Overview: Policy Analyst (Market Shaping Accelerator)

CGD is seeking a Policy Analyst to contribute to the development and adoption of high-impact market shaping proposals aimed at fostering global innovations. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about economic policy, quantitative analysis, and international development. The Policy Analyst will work closely with MSA directors and research teams in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Policy Analyst will:

  • Economic Appraisal & Quantitative Modeling (60%)
    • Conduct cost-benefit analysis of market-shaping proposals.
    • Estimate market sizes, potential benefits, and costs of proposed market shaping interventions.
    • Develop microeconomic models and empirical research using Stata, R, or Python.
  • Policy Research & Market Analysis (20%)
    • Analyze policy challenges related to climate change, biosecurity, and pandemic preparedness.
    • Conduct research on industry market structures to inform decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication (10%)
    • Coordinate with economists, policymakers, and global development experts.
    • Assist in preparing research papers, blog posts, and policy briefs.
  • Desk Research & Problem Identification (10%)
    • Identify promising opportunities for market shaping interventions.
    • Provide background research for future MSA projects.

Some domestic and international travel may be required.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in policy research, economic analysis, or quantitative modeling.
  • Strong quantitative skills and empirical research experience.
  • Proficiency in Stata, R, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MS/MA) in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field with 1+ years of experience.
  • Experience with advanced economic modeling and knowledge of multiple programming languages.
  • Interest in climate change, biosecurity, and global development policy.
