About UNDP 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is at the forefront of implementing the Initiation Plan for Sustainable Financing, a critical initiative aimed at mainstreaming climate resilience into budgetary processes and public financial management. As part of this initiative, the Inclusive Budgeting and Financing for Climate Resilience (IBFCR) Phase II project seeks to integrate climate considerations into national planning, enhance governance, and strengthen public finance management frameworks.


Role Summary

The Project Research Associate will play a pivotal role in conducting research, collecting data, and providing analytical insights to support project planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Research Associate will collaborate with government agencies, private sector partners, and civil society organizations to enhance climate finance governance in Bangladesh.


Key Responsibilities

1. Research & Data Analysis

  • Collect and analyze data related to climate finance strategies, frameworks, and budgeting methodologies.
  • Support the development of updated climate public finance tracking tools.
  • Conduct research on global and local best practices in climate finance governance.
  • Assist in drafting surveys, reports, and policy briefs on climate-responsive public financial management.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination

  • Maintain a database of government agencies, development partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical assistance efforts for climate finance monitoring and policy recommendations.
  • Support the Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, in ensuring effective stakeholder synergy.

3. Technical & Operational Support

  • Assist in drafting work plans, event proposals, and technical reports.
  • Provide inputs on reports, studies, and other project-related documents.
  • Support the organization of meetings, seminars, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Prepare briefing materials, meeting minutes, and technical presentations.

4. Knowledge Management & Capacity Building

  • Contribute to capacity-building initiatives for Finance Division staff and line ministries.
  • Assist in climate finance tracking training and integrating gender-responsive budgeting.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field (preferred).
  • Alternatively, a High School Certificate with 6 years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • 3 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) or 6 years (with a High School Certificate) of experience in environmental science, climate change, development projects, and research.
  • Experience in data collection, financial analysis, and climate finance governance is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in budget tracking, financial analysis, and climate finance tools is a plus.
  • Ability to conduct workshops, training sessions, and seminars.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation frameworks is an asset.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Bangla (spoken and written) is required.
