1. Senior Manager, Business Development
Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Business Development plays a crucial role in expanding ForAfrika’s funding portfolio and strategic partnerships. Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Development, this position involves identifying, developing, and managing high-impact business opportunities while working closely with country teams, donors, and external stakeholders. The role requires a strong network within the international development sector, particularly among donor agencies, INGOs, foundations, and academic institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and implement a global business development strategy aligned with ForAfrika’s mission and growth objectives.
- Support the development of annual business development (BD) targets and funding forecasts.
- Identify new funding opportunities and strategic donor partnerships.
- Enhance internal BD tools, systems, and methodologies to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
Opportunity Identification & Capture:
- Research, track, and assess new business opportunities with institutional donors.
- Lead the capture planning process, including donor engagement and intelligence gathering.
- Establish and manage strategic partnerships with INGOs, government agencies, and the private sector.
- Represent ForAfrika at donor briefings, conferences, and key networking events.
Proposal Leadership & Development:
- Serve as Proposal Manager and/or Lead Technical Writer for priority funding proposals.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of proposal development, from strategy and design to compliance and submission.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to craft high-quality, competitive funding proposals.
- Ensure all proposals align with donor requirements and ForAfrika’s internal quality standards.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building:
- Mentor and guide the business development team across multiple locations.
- Conduct training sessions on proposal writing, donor engagement, and BD best practices.
- Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented culture within the BD team.
External Representation & Thought Leadership:
- Represent ForAfrika at key international development forums, donor meetings, and industry events.
- Contribute to thought leadership by sharing ForAfrika’s success stories and innovations.
- Strengthen the organization’s visibility and credibility within the donor community.

2. Proposal Manager
Role Overview
The Proposal Manager plays a vital role in securing funding for ForAfrika by leading and coordinating the development of high-quality, competitive proposals. As part of the Global Support Office (GSO), the Proposal Manager will guide cross-functional teams through the full proposal lifecycle—from opportunity identification and partner engagement through submission and post-submission debrief. This role is central to the success of ForAfrika’s business development strategy and involves collaboration with country offices, technical leads, finance, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Proposal Leadership & Development:
- Lead the design and development of high-quality proposals, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and organizational priorities.
- Coordinate the end-to-end proposal process, including strategy development, partner engagement, writing, budgeting, compliance, and submission.
- Organize and facilitate proposal design meetings, including technical brainstorming and project planning.
- Draft, review, and edit technical proposal sections (e.g., technical approach, management plan, past performance, capability statements).
- Ensure quality assurance and timely submission of all proposals.
Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Contribute to the development and refinement of ForAfrika’s business development strategy, including annual revenue targets and opportunity pipelines.
- Identify and engage with strategic donors, partners, and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans to deepen donor relationships.
- Represent ForAfrika at external events and industry forums to enhance organizational visibility.
Capacity Building & Team Support:
- Support other regional and country office teams during peak proposal periods.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior proposal development staff.
- Facilitate internal learning and sharing of best practices to strengthen institutional BD capabilities.
Process Optimization & Knowledge Management:
- Support the continuous improvement of BD processes and tools, incorporating feedback from past proposal efforts.
- Maintain updated boilerplate content, CVs, and organizational capacity statements for proposal use.
Qualifications & Experience (Both Positions)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (with 10+ years of experience) or Master’s degree (with 8+ years of experience) in business development, strategic planning, international development, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in project design and implementation within the international development sector.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of programs in emergency response, WASH, food security, health, education, and economic development.
- Proposal Development Expertise: Proven track record in securing funding from competitive solicitations, unsolicited proposals, and non-traditional sources.
- Donor Engagement: Experience working with major institutional donors and strategic partners.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in proposal writing.
- Relationship Management: Ability to engage, influence, and maintain strong partnerships.
- Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex BD landscapes.
- Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
- Time Zone Requirement: Must overlap with Africa Standard Time (AST) by at least 6 hours.
