Background & Job Description

The Equality Fund, a feminist organization dedicated to resourcing gender equity initiatives globally, is currently hiring a Program Officer for its Global Programs team. This remote position within Canada offers a full-time, indefinite contract and an attractive starting salary range of $87,000 to $90,000 CAD.

As a Program Officer, you’ll play a vital role in analyzing trends in feminist movements, managing grantmaking portfolios, and building relationships with grassroots partners—especially in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Balkans.

This role is ideal for professionals passionate about gender equity, feminist leadership, and social justice, who also bring fluency in English and Arabic.

Tasks¹

Grantmaking & Partnerships

Oversee and manage grant portfolios, including docket preparation, reports, and partner support.
Develop programming with internal and external feminist stakeholders.
Liaise with grantee partners, providing guidance and accompaniment.
Maintain up-to-date regional knowledge to inform grant strategy.
Represent the Equality Fund in external meetings, conferences, and collaborations.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

Contribute to feminist monitoring and evaluation systems.
Work with internal teams to document program successes and lessons.
Assist with compliance, reporting, and planning deliverables.

Organizational Support

Assist in onboarding and mentoring remote team members.
Participate in the sharing of program learnings and support internal communications.
Uphold the Equality Fund’s values, including anti-racism, anti-oppression, and intersectionality.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

No specific degree requirement mentioned, but a background in gender studies, international development, or social justice would be beneficial.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience in programmatic grantmaking or related international development roles.
Deep knowledge of feminist movements in the Middle East and North Africa is essential; experience in Central and Eastern Europe or the Balkans is a strong asset.
Demonstrated understanding of intersectionality, participatory grantmaking, and results-based management.
Proven ability to build trust-based relationships and navigate diverse stakeholder environments.

Language Skills

Proficiency in English and Arabic is required.

Additional Information

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Must be able to work remotely and travel up to 3–4 weeks annually.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
