UNOPS South East Asia and Pacific Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO)

The EAPMCO oversees UNOPS projects across 24 countries in North East Asia, South East Asia, and the Pacific. Based in Bangkok, the office ensures strategic direction, operational oversight, and quality assurance. UNOPS EAPMCO has a broad portfolio covering areas such as:

UNOPS in Papua New Guinea (PNG)

UNOPS has been actively implementing renewable energy projects funded by the Australian Government (DFAT) in Papua New Guinea. These projects aim to provide sustainable energy access through solar PV and hydropower hybrid systems in regions like Telefomin, Daru, Buka, Baiyer, and Milne Bay.

Additionally, UNOPS PNG is expanding its portfolio to include new projects in:

  • Health Infrastructure
  • Climate-Resilient Infrastructure
  • Community Development Projects
  • Water Supply and Sanitation

Senior Project Manager Role

The Senior Project Manager will play a key role in ensuring that UNOPS projects in Papua New Guinea deliver impactful and sustainable results. Reporting to the Country Manager, the Senior Project Manager will oversee project implementation, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with UNOPS guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management & Implementation:
    • Oversee the design, execution, and supervision of infrastructure and development projects.
    • Ensure projects meet high-quality standards and are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for funders, government agencies, and partners.
    • Provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and risk mitigation strategies.
    • Support business development and resource mobilization efforts.
  3. Team Leadership & Capacity Building:
    • Supervise a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, contract managers, and logistics specialists.
    • Ensure knowledge transfer and capacity building among team members.
    • Promote a culture of efficiency, accountability, and innovation.
  4. Risk Management & Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to UNOPS guidelines and funding agreements.
    • Identify and mitigate project risks.
    • Maintain transparency and accountability in financial and operational aspects.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, International Development, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 7 years of experience in project management, preferably in infrastructure, renewable energy, or humanitarian projects.
    • Experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, particularly in developing countries.
    • Previous work with UN organizations or international NGOs is an advantage.
  • Language Requirements:
    • Proficiency in English is required.
    • Knowledge of local languages in Papua New Guinea is an asset.
