Background & Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a global humanitarian organization founded in 1933, is seeking a Career Programs Intern for Spring 2025. This unpaid internship provides the opportunity to support career development services for refugees in San Diego, particularly those pursuing certifications in fields like Allied Healthcare, IT, and Manufacturing.

As an intern, you will collaborate with the Career Development team to deliver workforce preparation activities and provide direct support to refugee clients. This role is fully remote, offering flexibility within the San Diego office’s hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm PST.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data entry, filing, and ensuring database accuracy.
  • Provide support for college and FAFSA applications.
  • Conduct post-class follow-ups with participants.
  • Assist clients with resume reviews, job searching, networking, and interview preparation.
  • Facilitate one-on-one technical assistance sessions for participants with limited English proficiency.
  • Develop guides, resources, and training curriculums in various professional fields.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed by the training staff.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in Education, International Relations/Development, Social Work, or a related field.

Skills & Experience

  • Required:
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
    • Fluent in English.
    • Interest in working with diverse, low-income populations.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred:
    • Volunteer experience with a nonprofit.
    • Proficiency in Farsi/Dari, Kiswahili, Arabic, Burmese, or Russian.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain insight into challenges faced by refugees entering the workforce.
  • Develop skills in direct client services related to employment.
  • Build proficiency in data entry and analysis tools.

Additional Information

  • Supervision: Reports to the Career Development Coordinator.
  • Working Environment: Fully remote. Hours are flexible within the designated timeframe.
  • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
