About the Organization
The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) plays a vital role in international peace and security by preventing and resolving conflicts through inclusive political solutions. It leads in peacebuilding efforts, working closely with UN entities, regional organizations, and civil society groups. The Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), established under DPPA, assists the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) and administers the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), the primary financial mechanism for implementing the Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) agenda.

Job Overview
This role is based in the Peacebuilding Strategy and Partnership Branch (PSPB) within PBSO. The Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for coordinating the second independent progress study on youth contributions to peace processes and conflict resolution, as mandated by the Pact for the Future (Action 20, c). The study must be completed by August 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical research on youth engagement in peace and security.
- Draft high-level reports, background papers, and policy recommendations.
- Provide strategic guidance for the second independent study, including concept development, budgeting, and data analysis.
- Collaborate with key partners, including UN entities, civil society organizations, and policymakers.
- Organize consultations and research activities with youth and peacebuilding stakeholders.
- Participate in high-level discussions, conferences, and academic forums.
- Analyze political trends and provide recommendations for UN senior officials.
- Support coordination of Special Political Missions and Peacekeeping Operations on YPS implementation.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in political science, international relations, law, public administration, or related fields.
- A first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.
- Additional training in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in political science, peacebuilding, security, or conflict resolution.
- At least 3 years of experience in peacebuilding.
- At least 2 years of experience working on youth, peace, and security issues.
- Experience in drafting and coordinating research studies or policy papers is desirable.
- Experience in organizing consultations with youth and civil society on peace and security issues is an advantage.
- Field experience in conflict-affected settings is desirable.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of French is desirable.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
