Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will have the opportunity to work in one or more of the following key areas:

1. Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems

  • Assist in shaping local digital ecosystems to ensure an inclusive and rights-based approach to digital development.
  • Support the development of secure and equitable digital and data infrastructure.
  • Conduct research and content review on topics such as AI, ethical technology, digital inclusion, and connectivity.
  • Collect and disseminate digital-related thought pieces and knowledge materials.
  • Support advocacy through content creation for social media, blogs, and briefings.

2. Country Office Support & Capacity Building

  • Assist in assessing countries’ digital and AI readiness.
  • Support the development of national data strategies and governance frameworks.
  • Help make digital and AI capacity-building resources more accessible to governments.
  • Provide support for AI and data initiatives, including multilingual AI, AI talent development, and AI ethics.
  • Contribute to the development of digital skills programs for UNDP personnel.

3. UNDP Digital Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Conduct research and analysis on key digital topics for UNDP leadership.
  • Maintain and update UNDP’s digital guides and resources.
  • Assist in implementing the Digital Strategy by providing business process support.
  • Draft speeches, talking points, and briefs for UNDP’s Chief Digital Officer.
  • Analyze data to track the progress of digital transformation initiatives.

4. Business Operations (People Operations, Procurement, Finance)

  • Assist in financial planning and resource allocation tracking.
  • Support administrative functions such as meetings, workshops, and procurement processes.
  • Develop best practices and strategies for operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement and recruitment policies.

5. Thought Leadership, Engagement, and Partnerships

  • Research potential technology partners, foundations, and alliances.
  • Support strategic communications, proposal writing, and concept note development.
  • Assist in global UN interagency engagements by drafting statements and organizing events.
  • Produce compelling content for social media, newsletters, and blogs.

6. Product Design, Development, and AI Tools

  • Assist in designing and building digital products, including AI tools and platforms.
  • Support product scoping, user testing, and implementation in various country offices.
  • Work with developers and project managers to refine digital solutions.

7. UNDP Organizational Transformation

  • Support knowledge-sharing initiatives and Communities of Practice.
  • Track progress on digital transformation initiatives.
  • Assist in internal communications and knowledge management.
  • Help integrate digital tools into UNDP programs for greater efficiency.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Knowledge of digital technologies, AI, and data governance is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data analysis tools, and digital communication platforms.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or higher), OR
  • Be in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree program, OR
  • Have graduated within the past year and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

  • Interns are responsible for all expenses related to the internship, including travel, accommodation, and living costs.
  • UNDP does not provide health insurance for interns, and they must ensure they have coverage.
  • Interns are not considered UNDP staff members and may not represent the organization in any official capacity.
