The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is hiring a Blockchain Research and Data Analyst under a short-term IPSA contract to support digital payment initiatives in Arab States and Africa. This role will be based in Istanbul, Türkiye, with a contract duration of six months.

Background
UNDP has been actively exploring blockchain technology since 2015, supporting its application in various global initiatives. Partnering with the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), UNDP is pioneering blockchain-based digital payment solutions in developing economies.
This initiative spans 16 countries, including Colombia, Ecuador, Moldova, Ukraine, Mali, Lebanon, and Yemen, among others. The goal is to promote financial inclusion, economic resilience, and transparency through secure and efficient digital payments.
The Blockchain Research and Data Analyst will assist in research, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of blockchain projects across Arab States and Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on digital payments in Arab States.
- Identify and map key stakeholders, organizations, and companies in the blockchain ecosystem.
- Initiate discussions with Ministries of Finance and central banks to explore digital payment use cases.
- Support the development of blockchain pilot projects in collaboration with UNDP country offices.
- Contribute to the Blockchain Academy and Blockchain Accelerator initiatives.
- Assist in organizing webinars, mentorship programs, and networking events.
Required Skills & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, Health Science, or a related field.
Experience:
- Up to 2 years (with a Master’s degree) OR minimum 2 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) in relevant work experience.
- Experience in financial technologies is required.
- Experience with digital transformation at the national level is an asset.
- Previous experience working with UNDP or other UN agencies is an advantage.
- Knowledge of blockchain technology, digital payments, and mobile money solutions is highly desirable.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English (mandatory)
- Knowledge of Arabic or French is an advantage.
