Background & Job Description
The UNESCO Internship Programme offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience within the daily operations of a United Nations specialized agency. Interns will join teams in Programme Sectors or Central Services either at UNESCO Headquarters, Field Offices, or Category I Institutes. This internship provides a multicultural environment where participants can develop technical and professional skills while contributing to the organization’s mission.
Interns will perform a variety of tasks tailored to the team’s needs, which may include research, communication, event organization, or data analysis. Each intern’s specific tasks and learning objectives will be defined by their supervisor upon selection.

Tasks
As part of this internship, participants may:
- Conduct and summarize research.
- Assist in preparing substantive and communication materials.
- Collect, analyze, and present data.
- Organize and communicate about events.
- Participate in meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the technical work of the assigned team or unit.
- Liaise with other United Nations entities.
- Support specific projects as required.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old at the time of application.
- Candidates should be currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent) or have recently graduated within the last 12 months.
- Individuals in secretarial or technical/professional assignments must be enrolled in a specialized institution or have graduated within the last 12 months.
Experience
- Proficiency in English or French (both written and spoken) is required. A working knowledge of the other language is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of computer systems and office-related software is essential.
- Applicants should demonstrate teamwork skills and the ability to adapt to an international working environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.

- UNESCO internships are unpaid, and there is no financial compensation for assignments.
- Interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during the internship.
