About the Role
The Consultant (Local Integration) will be engaged by UNHCR’s Regional Bureau for Europe to support the Refugee-Welcoming Employer Pledge. This initiative encourages private sector companies to facilitate refugee employment by adopting inclusive hiring practices and support mechanisms beyond direct employment. The consultant will work closely with Startup Refugees, a Finland-based social innovation organization that assists asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants in finding jobs, acquiring professional skills, and starting businesses.
Key Responsibilities
The selected consultant will:
- Develop a framework for activities companies can undertake to support refugee employment (e.g., language training, childcare, mentorship).
- Identify corporate motivations for refugee employment and align them with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria and the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
- Engage with stakeholders, including private sector actors, labor unions, chambers of commerce, and municipal authorities to enhance employer participation.
- Develop branding and promotional materials for the Refugee-Welcoming Employer Pledge, including a certification seal/logo.
- Conduct outreach to businesses, encouraging participation and commitment to the pledge.
- Oversee the application, selection, and certification process for companies joining the initiative.
- Organize a Recognition Ceremony for participating employers.
- Compile a final report with insights and recommendations for replicating the initiative in other European contexts.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for the role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education:
- A degree in Business Administration, Communications, Economics, Social Sciences, or related fields.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the employment sector or private sector engagement in Finland or a similar national context.
- Understanding of refugee integration challenges in Europe.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with private sector partnerships and non-governmental organizations.
- Background in ESG, corporate sustainability strategy, or social impact initiatives.
- Previous work experience with UN organizations is an advantage.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in Finnish and English is required.
