Background & Job Description

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a Consultant for Communication for Health (C4H) to support the Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO). This consultancy aims to integrate strategic communication approaches across various public health programs to improve health outcomes in the region.

The C4H approach leverages insights from social and behavioral sciences to inspire and empower individuals and communities to make informed health choices. By focusing on evidence-based, people-centered communication, the initiative seeks to shift knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors to achieve better public health outcomes.

Tasks

1. Capacity Building

• Knowledge Exchange Sessions: Plan and co-lead knowledge exchange sessions to enhance the application of C4H tools across WHO divisions and country offices.
• Training Development: Develop and facilitate training programs to build capacity among WHO staff and Member States in core areas of C4H.

2. Strategic Communication Design

• Intervention Planning: Collaborate with technical teams to design and implement communication interventions using behavioral analysis tools.
• Campaign Development: Co-design strategic and crosscutting communication interventions/campaigns to address public health priorities.

3. Stakeholder Engagement

• Mapping Collaborators: Map and engage communication collaborators to co-create narratives and diversify local communication ecosystems.
• Partnership Building: Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, civil society organizations, and media partners.

4. Content Development

• Material Production: Produce behaviorally optimized communication materials, including multimedia content and social media assets.
• Pre-testing: Ensure that communication materials are pre-tested to assess their effectiveness before widespread dissemination.

5. Guideline Development

• Campaign Guides: Develop practical communication campaign guides aligned with C4H principles for adoption by WHO teams.
• Template Creation: Create embedded templates, such as briefing notes and message-brief templates, to standardize communication efforts.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

• Essential: University degree in communications, social sciences, public health, or a related field.
• Desirable: Advanced university degree in a relevant field.

Experience

• Essential: At least five years of experience in communication, including planning, content writing, and production of evidence-based materials.
• Desirable: Experience in public health communications and working with international organizations.

Skills and Knowledge

• Essential: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Desirable: Ability to develop and deliver presentations to various audiences.

Languages

• Essential: Expert level of English (read-write-speak).
