As a Development Officer, you will play a critical role in driving revenue growth by cultivating relationships with foundations, institutional funders, and strategic partners. This senior-level position combines strategic leadership with hands-on fundraising execution, managing a robust portfolio of prospects, designing compelling proposals, and supporting philanthropic partnerships to scale CRF’s impact.
You will work closely with CRF leadership to create and implement development strategies that align with organizational priorities. Your efforts will help secure multi-year commitments and advance equity-focused climate resilience initiatives nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional donors, foundations, and corporate philanthropic departments.
- Manage a portfolio of high-potential prospects and existing funders, evolving giving levels and securing multi-year commitments.
- Collaborate with leadership to create and refine CRF’s development strategy, including fundraising goals, timelines, systems, and metrics.
- Develop proposals, build donor-facing materials, and craft compelling narratives tailored to funder priorities.
- Monitor fundraising progress, maintain accurate donor records in CRM systems, and report on key metrics.
Partnership Building & Program Expansion
- Identify and pursue co-funding initiatives, joint proposals, and strategic collaborations to expand CRF’s programs.
- Work with program staff and leadership to translate CRF initiatives into compelling donor-facing narratives.
- Represent CRF externally at funder meetings, site visits, panels, and conferences to increase visibility and credibility.
Strategic Engagement & Internal Collaboration
- Participate in leadership discussions to align development strategies with organizational priorities.
- Support executive leadership in activating networks and fundraising outreach.
- Train staff and reinforce internal culture around philanthropy, consistent messaging, and stewardship practices.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure timely submission of grant proposals, reporting, and compliance with donor requirements.
- Maintain meticulous tracking of deadlines, commitments, proposals, and reports.
- Identify and implement best practices for process improvement in fundraising operations.
Qualifications
Education
- Advanced degree preferred but not required in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Environmental Science, or related area.
Experience & Skills
Essential:
- 8–10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with demonstrated success raising significant philanthropic support.
- Proven experience managing funder portfolios, winning grants, and cultivating long-term philanthropic relationships.
- Strong grant writing and storytelling ability; adept at translating complex climate resilience programs into donor-facing materials.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; comfortable presenting to diverse audiences.
- Strategic mindset with strong organizational and systems understanding.
- High integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive donor and financial information.
- Proficiency with CRM tools, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and project tracking systems.
Preferred:
- Experience in climate, environmental resilience, or related sectors.
- Track record of cultivating multi-year institutional or major gifts.
- Experience structuring collaboration or joint fundraising initiatives.
