What Makes This Role Important

Mozambique is highly affected by climate change, having faced eleven tropical cyclones since 2007. Severe droughts, floods, and other climate events are impacting millions of people. As of the 2023/24 agricultural season, 2.7 million Mozambicans are already food insecure.

The role of a Communications Associate is to amplify WFP’s message, increase visibility, attract funding, and keep global and local audiences informed. This is a unique opportunity to bring critical stories to light and support life-saving programs.

Duties and Responsibilities (Simplified)

Don’t be intimidated by the long job description. At its core, this position revolves around supporting communications work:

Campaign Support: Help plan and execute awareness campaigns.
Media Content Creation: Assist with video shoots, interviews, photo stories, and media storage.
Media Relations: Coordinate media coverage and write engaging content.
Event Management: Organize events, liaise with partners, and promote WFP activities.
Monitoring & Reporting: Track social and traditional media to inform strategy.
Content Development: Write for websites, social media, brochures, and reports.
Documentation & Support: Respond to internal requests and maintain communication databases.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work with other UN agencies and local partners.
Visibility Management: Procure and manage branded visibility materials.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma + post-secondary certification. A university degree is a strong advantage.
Experience: At least 6 years of experience in communications or a related field.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese.
Skills:
- Excellent writing and storytelling
- Social media knowledge
- Basic graphic/video editing is a plus
- Ability to work in fast-paced settings
