The World Trade Organization (WTO) is seeking candidates for its Young Professionals Programme (YPP) for 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for young professionals to gain valuable experience in international trade and develop a deeper understanding of the multilateral trading system.
The YPP is aimed at qualified young professionals up to the age of 32 years as of January 1, 2026, from WTO Members with low or no professional representation in the WTO Secretariat. The programme provides the chance to enhance your knowledge of the WTO, improve your skills in international trade, and contribute to global development.
Programme Overview:

Duration: One-year, non-extendable contract.

Eligibility: Applicants must be nationals from WTO Members with low or no professional representation at the Secretariat.

Key Focus Areas: The YPP offers work experience in a variety of WTO areas, such as Climate Change, Digital Trade, Intellectual Property Rights, Trade and Gender, Trade Facilitation, Fisheries Subsidies, and many more.
What Does the WTO Offer You?

Work Experience: Gain hands-on experience in one of the WTO’s divisions aligned with your interests and qualifications.

Salary: A monthly salary of CHF 4,000 to support your work and living costs in Geneva.

Areas of Work:
The selected Young Professional will be placed in a specific division of the WTO Secretariat based on their interests and the organization’s needs. Some of the areas of work include:

Trade Policy Analysis
Applicants must express interest in up to three areas of work and indicate their preferences in order of importance.
Required Qualifications:

Education: Advanced university degree in Economics, Law, International Relations, or other relevant fields.

Skills: Strong drafting skills in English. Knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.

Experience: Minimum two years of professional experience relevant to the WTO’s work.

Languages: Fluency in English; proficiency in French or Spanish is a plus.

This programme is especially targeted at applicants from developing and least developed countries (LDCs) with low representation at the WTO. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
