Background & Job Description
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a global leader in conservation and climate action, is seeking a Senior Program Officer (SPO) to join its Corporate Climate Engagement team. This full-time, hybrid position is based in Washington, DC, with a minimum of two in-office days weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The SPO will help manage over two dozen corporate partnerships and WWF’s Climate Business Network, driving ambitious private-sector climate goals.
The SPO will support companies in setting and implementing science-based targets (SBTs), navigating GHG accounting protocols, and understanding emerging standards in climate-related disclosure, such as the CSRD and CSDDD. This position plays a strategic role in scaling corporate climate action, especially across supply chains, carbon markets, and renewable energy strategies.
Tasks
- Corporate Climate Target Support
Guide partners in setting SBTs, value chain GHG accounting, and net-zero strategies
Advise on market-based solutions and environmental certificates - Corporate Relationship Management
Develop workplans and communications for WWF corporate climate partners
Plan webinars, monthly calls, and annual Climate Business Network events - Strategy Development
Contribute to WWF-US’s corporate climate engagement strategy across sectors - Subject Matter Expertise & Research
Build expertise in carbon markets, corporate transition plans, MRV frameworks, climate disclosure, and EU/US regulation - Technical & Analytical Work
Conduct literature reviews and write reports with minimal supervision
Track progress of corporate partners and identify areas for climate ambition improvement - Cross-functional & Global Collaboration
Work with internal WWF teams and international offices to align climate initiatives - External Representation
Attend and represent WWF at major climate-related events and stakeholder meetings - Staff Supervision
May oversee interns or junior team members as needed
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Engineering, Economics, Industrial Ecology, Public Policy, or a related field
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience (or 3 years with an advanced degree)
Experience
- Deep knowledge of corporate climate mitigation, GHG accounting (especially under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol), and science-based targets
- Experience with carbon markets, renewable energy, and value chain sustainability
- Familiarity with climate reporting platforms (e.g., CDP, RE100, SBTi) and evolving regulations (e.g., CSRD, CSDDD)
