The International Finance team supports award financial management, financial reporting and compliance with internal policies and donor requirements. Strong financial management is central to the effective delivery of programmes across the organisation’s regional operations.
About the Regional Finance Director Role
The Regional Finance Director will serve as a member of the International Finance team and the Africa regional office. The position will support financial management across the regional portfolio and oversee financial management of initiatives led by the Africa regional team.
The Director will report to the VP of International Finance and Deputy Regional Director, Operations, Africa, while working closely with the Regional Controller, country finance teams and regional leadership. The role will help optimise financial resources and strengthen efficiency, accountability and compliance across programmes.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will monitor the financial performance of the Africa portfolio and identify financial weaknesses, risks, opportunities and areas for improvement. They will support risk management processes, develop mitigation strategies and provide regular information on financial health to senior leadership.
The role will also support country programmes during start-up, closeout and other major programme events. Responsibilities include developing master budgets and subaward budgets, supporting financial forecasting and strengthening Budget vs. Actual (BvA) management.
The Director may deploy to country offices and field sites to provide financial support and oversight. They will also contribute to business development by reviewing cost proposals and conducting financial reviews before submission to donors.
Another important part of the role is strategic financial planning. The Director will provide financial information to regional senior management, contribute to country strategies and annual operating budgets, and support decisions concerning regional resources. The position also requires presenting complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Leadership and Capacity Building
The Regional Finance Director will support recruitment and onboarding for finance leadership positions across the region. The role includes coaching, mentoring and performance support for International Finance team members, including analysts and managers.
The Director will also help strengthen financial management and accounting capacity across regional and country teams through training, mentorship and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. A Master’s degree, CPA or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
Candidates must have at least 10 years of progressive international financial management experience within an INGO, including supervisory experience. Experience working in complex and fast-paced environments and the ability to deploy to emergency locations are required.
Applicants should have proven experience managing multi-country financial operations and donor-funded projects. Knowledge of US Government and European Union regulations, including US Government contracting, is highly desirable.
Strong leadership, communication, collaboration and stakeholder-management skills are also required. Fluency in English and French is required, while proficiency in relevant regional languages is desirable. The position requires frequent travel of up to 25% of the time.
