The Senior Program Officer, Diagnostics Innovation will play a key role in identifying and evaluating new diagnostic technologies, overseeing strategic investments, and advancing products from concept to in-country implementation.
This role is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in diagnostics or diagnostic devices who want to drive innovation with real-world public health impact.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Program Officer will:
- Lead global scouting efforts to identify emerging diagnostic technologies, including AI-enabled tools and point-of-care devices.
- Conduct technical and strategic due diligence on innovations to assess scalability, regulatory viability, and health impact.
- Manage a portfolio of grants and contracts in diagnostics research and development, including monitoring outcomes and risks.
- Support the development of target product profiles, use cases, and value propositions for new diagnostic platforms.
- Collaborate with foundation leadership to shape diagnostics strategy and investment priorities.
- Build relationships with external partners such as academia, startups, accelerators, and industry leaders.
- Represent the foundation at international conferences and stakeholder meetings.
This position requires up to 30% travel, both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- MSc, PhD, or MD in diagnostics, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
- Advanced training in diagnostic innovation or product development is highly desirable.
Experience
- At least 10 years of experience in diagnostics or diagnostic devices, with demonstrated success in product development.
- Proven ability to source, evaluate, and de-risk novel technologies.
- Industry experience leading projects through early development to regulatory approval.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled diagnostics or software as a medical device.
- Experience working in low-resource or LMIC settings is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex science for diverse stakeholders.
Additional Information
- Salary & Benefits: The annual salary range is USD 227,400 – 352,400, equivalent to USD 18,950 – 29,366 per month, depending on experience and location. The foundation also offers full health coverage (medical, dental, vision) at no premium, retirement contributions, paid family leave, and generous vacation.
